Law of Karma - "Value Systems for Success"-The Law of Detachment..(2)

The Law of Detachment..

This episode conveys a deep philosophical and practical message. Bali represents ‘lust’. Our personality was ruled by Sugrivan (good qualities) but has been usurped by Bali (lust).

So, if you want to conquer lust, you have to destroy lust and re-establish noble tendencies. If you want to conquer any desire or weakness and you go face to face to the object of desire, the temptation becomes too formidable. The object draws half your strength from you. Being in the presence of the object of temptation, you cannot conquer the desire. You have to stay away from the environment that inflames the desire. Then you will have the stamina to conquer the desire. This idea is represented by Lord Rama hiding behind the tree and shot Bali.

Detachment is an attitude of non-involvement. Detachment is rather subtle to understand and even more difficult to practice. The sense of detachment is not mere physical abstinence. When you detach yourself physically from pleasure without the mental detachment, which amounts to hypocrisy. The state of detachment is the attitude of not letting the objects of the world affect you or rule you.
