New Zealand win World Rugby Cup New Zealand beat Australia 34-17 in the final of the World Rugby Cup at Twickenham and became the nation to win the cup three times and the first to retain the trophy. The All Black a led 21-4 at one stage but the Wallabies fought back strongly to reduce the deficit to three but two brilliant tries and the resultant penalty kicks brought the final score to 34-17. South Africa won the third place play-off against Argentina.
