Split captaincy issues of Indian cricket India have suffered losses in T20 as well as ODI series against South Africa under the captaincy of Mahindra Singh Dhoni and a new captain Virat Kohli takes over for the test series beginning on the 3rd of December are Delhi. Dhoni has retired from test cricket and will not play in the series. The players who played under Dhoni will now play under a different captain with a different approach towards the game. Dhoni is Captain Cool who keeps a calm head under all situations while Kohli is aggressive intimidating and wears his emotions on his sleeve. When the players having been used to one captain for sometime play under a different captain there will certainly be adjustments to be made and the most important among them is to learn how to operate in different formats with multiple captains. The South Africans have mastered this art. While Faf du Plessis leads the T20 side AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla captain the ODI and Test sides respectively. The difference is that the three of them play together in all formats. And that makes decision making that much easier because the three captains work together and learn from each other. India on the other hand has split the responsibility handing captaincy to two players who hardly spend little time with each other and demand different traits from the players. There have been discussions on this and Ajit Wadekar does not agree with multi captaincy. He feels that it affects the loyalty of the side. According to him one captain who commands respect and is supported in all his decisions is a better system. Bishan Singh Bedi feels that all is not well in the Indian dressing room and it could be due to the dual captaincy. After the captaincy split its clear that Indias level of performance has gone down though the ODI series against South Africa was close except for the final match. And de Villiers was the difference between the two sides. Former spinner Maninder however wants Dhoni to be relieved of his captaincy duties and he thinks that Kohli should be made captain in all formats. Dhoni is hardly with the side and when he is out he is completely detached from cricket as he does not play domestic cricket he added. The pressure is building on Dhoni and it has to be seen what Captain Cool has in store for the future of Indian cricket team.
