North East United win at Chennai North East United scored their second consecutive victory away from home when they beat Chennayin FC by two goals to one in the Hero Indian Super League match played at Chennai on Wednesday. The match was held up due to intensive lightning 25 minutes into the first half and play was restarted after a delay of 55 minutes. Elano scored first for Chennayin in the 35th minute with a fine volley from the top of the box but Camara equalised soon after when his header from close range was blocked by Edel but fell kindly for him to tap in. At break it was 1-1 but the second half saw Chennayin FC attacking with vigour and it was goalkeeper Rehenesh who kept North East in the game with two spectacular saves first by diving full stretch to his left to keep away a wicked free kick from Elano and then flying high to tip away another vicious curved from Mendoza which was heading to the top corner. Against the run of play North East scored when Silas who had replaced Simao after receiving a pass from Camara sent Mails on in the wrong direction with a feint and slammed the ball into the net giving no chance to the keeper. The score remained 2-1 till the end despite some desperate efforts by Chennayin who were on the whole the better team but were done in by poor finishing and Reheneshs brilliant keeping. An example of the trend was that North East United got their first corner after Chennayin FC had eight. North East United are fifth on 13 points level with Kolkata who are fourth on a better goal difference.
