Law of Karma – “Value Systems for Success”

Firmness of purpose..

Once there lived a great and noble king. He did not marry and had no children. As he was growing old, the ministers were concerned about who would take over the kingdom after the king retired. They all approached him on this matter. The king thought deeply about the future of the kingdom. Eventually, the king decided on a grand plan. He said: ‘I will be setting up a grand exhibition in a big ground with stalls displaying all kinds of attractive things. In that exhibition ground, I will be hiding in disguise somewhere and whoever discovers me will be the next king’. The exhibition was arranged and people from all parts of the country thronged to the venue. Their only mission was to find the king. However, they were soon distracted, by the exhibits. They were so attractive and tantalizing. Initially most people had great detachment from the things exhibited. Their only aim was to find the king, but as time went by then were all attracted to the objects displayed and were caught up in one stall or another. They totally forgot the mission they came for.

However, there as one young man who was not distracted by the enchantment of the stalls. He went about searching for the king but could not find him. He was exhausted and disappointed because he could not discover the king. He eventually located a small temple, which was a permanent structure in the exhibition ground. In the temple was a poojari (priest) who offer this young man prasadam (remnants of ritual). He could not be bothered about the sentimental devotion. He ignored the offerings ad examined the poojari thoroughly and lo! He discovered the king. It was then announced that the young man would be the next king!
