Law of Karma - "Value Systems for Success"

Law of Karma – “Value Systems for Success”

Indulgence Cannot Reduce Desires

The body has become worn out, the head has turned gray, mouth has been rendered toothless, and clasping a stick the old man moves about. Even then the bundle of desires does not go!

Here, the master is giving a picture of an indulgent man whose power to enjoy the sense of objects is irresistible.

The body of the man is worn out because of extreme indulgence. He indulges in every aspect of worldly pleasures and the body becomes emaciated. Yet his desires and passions are not exhausted. His mind thirsts for the pleasures, the intellect plans and schemes for more pleasure, but the body is incapacitated and cannot achieve his objectives. Thus, he is even more frustrated. The desires and passions of the body are still imprisoned in the invalid body. Having been indulged all his life even at a ripe old age, he still desires pleasure. Thus, indulgence is not the way to reduce desires.

Those who believe that they can reduce the desires through unlimited, indiscriminate contact of the pleasures are mistaken. That does not work. That is like adding fuel to the fire. In this way desires multiply. The desires in human mind multiply exponentially.

to be continued..
