Indian cinema is not Bollywood says Kamal Haasan. Actor par excellence and filmmaker Kamal Haasan has observed that national cinema was born in South India especially in Chennai and not in Bollywood. He said recently that the strongest point about South India especially Chennai is that the national cinema sprang from here. It is not in the north that you found national cinema not in Kolkata nor in Mumbai but it is here. Kamal Haasan has always been an advocate of South Indian films in the past.He has often opined that the quality of films made in South India has been first rate and has lamented how it often goes unnoticed at a global stage. He also noted that regional films made in India often gets recognized overseas only on account of the star value and it is high time that quality movies made in regional language reached wide range of audiences.
